Part 18 of my interview with a very healthy octogenarian:
Q: Do you have recommended reading resources from authors and doctors who seem to really have a good handle on this whole aspect of diet and lifestyle?
A: Yes.
Eat to Live, by Dr. Joel Fuhrman.
How to Eliminate Sickness, by George Malkmus
Fit for Life Series, both Fit for Life I and II by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond.
Food Revolution, by John Robbins, he’s the son of the Baskin-Robbins founder.
Spontaneous Healing, Dr. Andrew Weil.
And I know that you’ve had a couple of good newsletters that you also use, could you repeat those again, what those newsletters were?
One of the newsletters is A Health and Healing by Dr. Julian Whitaker. And he’s out in California. And the other one, newsletter that I have, time to time, purchased is the Baylock Wellness Report by Russell Baylock, a medical doctor.
There’s also website by Robert Cohen called notmilk.com and I’m not sure if he’s on at this present – this summer, as we speak and if he’s – his site. But notmilk.com is a site he’s had since 1992 and if there’s a gentleman that quotes and he’s not hi – he doesn’t hide behind anything, he tells it like it is. And I’ve learned a lot from that gentleman. I don’t agree a hundred percent with what he says, but he is a tough gentleman. And he calls the shots and I believe that a lot of his stuff is really worthwhile. There’s another book – a couple of books that are very good is the book of Power Juices, Super Drinks by Steve Meyerowitz. It’s a wonderful book on juicing and drinks. And also, there’s a book called Fresh Vegetable and Fruit Juices by a man called Dr. Norman W. Walker. It’s a classic. He just finally died a few years ago and he was a hundred and fifteen years old. But his book is probably one of the best that I’ve ever read about the different kinds of fruits and vegetables. Especially the vegetables that you should eat to eliminate sickness. He really breaks it down to how much juice of different vegetables to heal different sicknesses, and he tells you what they are. It’s a fabulous book to read. Anyone who doesn’t like to do a lot of reading, if he was to own one book, that would be the book.
Walker wrote eight or nine books during his career. In fact, he was over a hundred and ten when he wrote one book. Goes to show you. And he mentions, time and time again, that it’s all lifestyle and quality of life, and that’s what it’s about. If you don’t have good quality of life, you’re not a very happy person and you’re not a very well-adjusted person. And those who eat the right foods will have the right quality of life and longevity, but the quality of life during that longevity is extremely important. Because to be alive and be on supportive assistance is not a quality of life.
